  • Obtained defense verdicts in an occupational toxic tort case centered around the allegation that twenty-eight bellwether plaintiffs had contracted occupational asthma (Lead Counsel)
  • Successfully defended the TransAlaska Oil Pipeline against claims in the courtroom and otherwise that its construction and operation would irrevocably damage the fragile ecosystems of Alaska (Co-lead Counsel)
  • Successfully defended the then largest selling and most important breast cancer drug in a nationwide plaintiff campaign alleging that the drug caused endometrial and ovarian cancers (Lead Counsel)
  • Directed a multidisciplinary safety and efficacy evaluation of a life-saving cholesterol drug that resulted in thwarting attempts to remove the drug from the market based on allegations that it caused life-threatening diseases
  • First to obtain all defense verdicts where more than twenty plaintiffs were tried in a single toxic tort case (Lead Counsel)
  • Routinely retained as co-lead medical and environmental counsel in cases pending in the most troublesome jurisdictions
  • Obtained multi-million dollar verdicts on behalf of children who suffered cognitive injuries in the largest airplane accident case in United States history (Co-lead Counsel)
  • Obtained a dismissal of a bellwether case involving claims by three District of Columbia garage mechanics that exposure to gasoline caused their leukemias (Lead Counsel)
  • Successfully represented all segments of the seafood industry in a landmark environmental contamination case where the discharge of a pesticide over an extended period of time resulted in the closure of the Chesapeake Bay and its environs to fishing (Co-lead Counsel)
  • Directed a multidisciplinary evaluation that resulted in overturning the European Union classification that a commonly used herbicide was a reproductive toxicant. This classification would have precluded its sale in most European countries.
  • Thwarted attempts to revoke the necessary permits for a LNG terminal located on Staten Island because it allegedly posed an unacceptable risk to community health 
  • Won defense verdicts on behalf of a formaldehyde foam manufacturer where it was alleged that off-gassing from the insulation caused nasal and other cancers (Lead Counsel)
  • Obtained a declaratory judgment against the State of California that found DEHP, then the most widely used plasticizer in medical devices, posed no significant cancer risk to humans and thus did not require a California Proposition 65 warning (Lead Counsel)
  • First to successfully win a summary jury trial in a toxic tort case – resolved claims by fifty plaintiffs that alleged TCE contamination of drinking water from my client’s plant caused a wide variety of injuries to adults and children (Lead Counsel)
  • Directed a multidisciplinary safety and efficacy evaluation of a therapeutically necessary breast cancer drug that negated international attempts to significantly limit its prophylactic and treatment uses
  • Developed the testimony of twenty-nine world-renowned experts that conclusively addressed the threat posed by herbicide contamination of drinking water resources to community and individual health in multiple jurisdictions throughout the United States
